Course Objectives:
- To give students an understanding of Historical concepts, terms, reading, and writing.
- To provide students with the background to understand and discuss a wide spectrum of Historical subjects.
- To develop public speaking and listening skills.
Classroom Texts and Required Materials:
All students will come to class prepared everyday with the required notebooks, workbooks, paper, and pens. Fines will be given for damaged or lost school issued materials.
- McDougal Littell Ancient World History (textbook and workbook or reading guide)
- Supply List: a separate spiral notebook or paper for this class only, highlighters, colored pencils/markers, scissors, index cards and a ruler.
Notebook/ Activity Log:
Each period will have a class activity log. This log will be a record of each day’s activities, notes, and due dates. A new log will be provided for each unit and collected as a part of notebook checks. Notebook checks will occur at least once each unit. You are REQUIRED to keep a folder in this class with your notes, classwork, and any other needed materials. Each student will receive only ONE folder and must return it to your class block’s crate at the end of each block.
Class Website:
Occasionally, you will be asked to post a response to a question or prompt on this website. If you are unable to access the web from home, you are welcome to use our classroom computer before, during, or after class. This website will also be updated regularly with announcements, a calendar, and class handouts. I will check if often, so post any questions you might have at home while completing an assignment or email me.
Homework
- Homework will be given usually once a week depending on the unit and is due the following class period. Keep a homework planner and write down all of you assignments—You’ll be amazed how much your grades will improve.
- Homework turned in after its due date will be penalized one letter grade for each day it is late not class period.
Absentee Information
- When you are absent from class, you are responsible for making up all work within 5 days of your return from school. You are responsible for finding out about missed assignments.
- If you are absent or missed part of a class period, the log is intended as a place for you to find out what you missed. ALWAYS CHECK THE ACTIVITY LOG (located on the wall behind the teacher’s desk) before asking the teacher for information! Additional copies for all assignments can be found in the black basked under the Activity Log.
- I will only sign yellow absentee slips when you have your missing assignments in hand.
Classwork
- Classwork must be done in class. It is due at the end of the block. Turn in all work or it will count as a zero.
- Work must be turned in on time and 50% complete before it can be finished during an after school tutorial.
Tests and Quizzes
- All paper and pencil multiple choice tests and quizzes can be retaken once for a better grade. All retakes will be averaged with the first grade earned—the average will be put in Gradespeed as the final grade.
- Retakes are offered after school only.
- Notebooks and projects cannot be made up or retaken for a better grade. Notebooks and projects turned in after their due date will be penalized one letter grade for each day it is late.
- Quarter/Semester Exams cannot be retaken.
Extra Credit
- Extra credit is rarely available. Don’t even ask for extra credit. If I do make it available everyone will know about it. There are no packets to make up for failed or missed work.
Tutorials:
- I hold tutorials Tuesdays, 2:15-4:00pm, in room 208 for additional help and/or make-up work. Sign-up if you plan to attend and be prepared with a list of work you need help completing.
- Additional tutorials can be offered as needed. Students can make a request, but must attend.
